Defending champions Haryana won the toss and elected to bowl first in their crucial Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, Group A clash against Assam at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur Saturday (December 28, 2024).

After a seven-wicket defeat in their opener, Haryana registered back-to-back wins against Goa, by eight wickets, and Jharkhand, by 64 runs. Ashok Menaria & Co. are fourth in the eight-team table with eight points.

India, the most successful team in the competition, now have five titles, including back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024. The victory adds to their bronze medal secured at the Paris Olympic Games last month.

After a goalless first quarter, Korea struck just 36 seconds into the second quarter with Jungjun Lee finding the net due to a mistake from Pakistan goalkeeper Abdullah Ishtiyaq Khan. The goal remained the difference between the two teams till the half-time.

Last year, Menaria led Haryana to their domestic List A title. In their first final appearance, they defeated Rajasthan by 30 runs.

Assam, meanwhile, are seventh with four points -- one win and two defeats. Led by Sibsankar Roy in the absence of Riyan Parag, Assam lost to Jharkhand and Gujarat by seven and eight wickets, respectively, in between a five-wicket win over Odisha.

In the last edition, Assam finished at the bottom of Group D with one win and five defeats. They were runners-up in the 2012-13 edition, losing to Delhi by 75 runs.
